Settling never feels good. It can range from mildly upsetting to intense frustration.
I was completing a submission online about For Marketing Matters and it forced me to categorize the firm by selecting three marketing categories. The section included a sentence about not being realistic to excel at everything so pick three only from a lengthy list of marketing capabilities.
I scanned the list and noted several areas of marketing that we do not do and don’t want to (e.g., public relations and crises management). That still left a long list of capabilities that we have.
In reviewing the list, I realized that For Marketing Matters was unlike others completing this submission. As a full-service marketing department, we offer a full range of capabilities. We are different and that difference is a benefit to our clients, a differentiator that we have a broad set of capabilities to better serve our clients.
We are not a point solution. Our clients count on us to develop and implement a marketing strategy that is not limited by our capabilities, but focused on incorporating the elements that make the most sense to achieve the desired results.
Unlike other marketing agencies who tend to offer a more limited breadth of services and have a narrow range of capabilities (such as advertising or PR), we offer the benefit of integrated and coordinated efforts that span a broad range of capabilities.
Fundamental Beliefs
I am passionate about the role that marketing has in every business, no matter the size.
I don’t believe in marketing projects or “campaigns”. I believe in the power of a solid marketing foundation and from that you develop and execute a phased marketing plan that will deliver measurable impact, with a focus on the practical marketing elements that have the higher likelihood of moving the needle. Not nice to have stuff. We focus on the marketing elements that we know will work and deliver results.
Note, we run email campaigns for our clients, but the general view of marketing as a campaign is not how we approach our work. We always start with strategies and goals, which lead to plans, milestones and tasks then measured in terms of impact.

Agency or marketing department?
I don’t think of For Marketing Matters as an ‘agency’. I think of us as each client’s marketing department. Not part of the department, but the entire department. We are fully responsible and accountable for the marketing function and take our role seriously.
No higher complement has been received than to be told by a client (CEO) that we are more accountable for results than his own direct reports. Bingo. That is the impact and accountability I want to convey and embrace. Just because we are virtual does not mean we are not impactful.
Outsourced?
While I am not a fan of this word in describing our role, we are technically outsourced, but I do not want to be viewed as or treated as an outsider. We seek to build rapport and relationships as we measure our clients in years not weeks or months. We strive to be integral to our client’s achieving their growth and revenue goals and best serve them when we are not viewed as a ‘service provider’ or God forbid, a vendor, but as an extension of the team, owning the marketing function.
Don’t settle.
If you are looking to attract more clients…
If you are looking to grow awareness of your product or services…
If you are not meeting your growth goals…
If you had a marketing team or agency or consultants and it did not work out…
If you have a gap in your company’s capabilities that is marketing…
If you need a strong marketing department to work with sales…
For Marketing Matters can help. Don’t settle for a skill set or a person. Don’t settle for an agency that can only deliver on two or three marketing capabilities.
We check the box on all the following which I understand risks making your head hurt, but the reality is we’re good at what we do. We love what we do, and we get the job done. I can’t recall the full list of capabilities that I was forced to choose only three from, but off the top of my head, we do all of the following and we do our job really well.
- Branding
- Building a strong foundation including competitive analysis
- Messaging
- Social media strategy and posting
- Data management/Dream List building
- Website design, development, optimization & hosting
- Lead generation
- B2B marketing
- Email marketing
- Sales tool kits and collateral development
- Event planning/tabling/booth presence
- Content development (including video)
- Online presence management (e.g., Google Business Listings, review sites)
- Promotional items, branded clothing, truck/car wraps
- Sales training on the brand, value proposition and messaging
- Signage
- Advertising

It didn’t feel great to be forced to choose three from a list, but afterwards I realized that For Marketing Matters does more, offers more and is not in the same category as most marketing firms.
There is no need for you to settle or compromise when it comes to building and expanding the top of the sales funnel for your business or organization.
